Denali is a newer June-bearing strawberry released in 2023. It was selected for excellent flavor, strong disease resistance and productive fruiting over a relatively concentrated harvest period. The variety produces glossy, deep-red berries with a medium-sized fruit profile and is particularly interesting for gardeners looking for a newer short-day strawberry rather than another traditional commercial cultivar.
Denali’s harvest pattern differs from day-neutral varieties. Instead of producing continuously from spring through fall, it produces a strong crop during its main fruiting window. The production period can extend for roughly two and a half months under suitable conditions, giving gardeners a substantial harvest without the ongoing management associated with continuously fruiting day-neutral plants.
One of Denali’s notable characteristics is its disease resistance. The variety has moderate to high resistance to powdery mildew and Fusarium wilt, making it an interesting option where these diseases are a concern.
Denali also benefits from adequate winter chilling before planting. This makes it particularly interesting for northern growing regions where naturally cooler conditions can provide the chilling required for strong establishment and subsequent production.
The combination of flavor, disease resistance and concentrated production makes Denali well suited to home gardens as well as growers looking for a newer June-bearing strawberry.
